CBD Education – FAQ

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-intoxicating chemical compound found in Cannabis sativa L. plants and was discovered in 1940. CBD is a naturally occurring substance that promotes relaxation, calmness, and wellness, and is available to consumers in many different forms.

Where does CBD come from?

CBD is one of over 100 complex molecules (called cannabinoids) found in the flowers and leaves of the hemp plant. It is extracted from the plant using “solvents” and high-pressure vessels in a lab. The two most common “solvents” used are CO2 and ethanol. At Peace River CBD®, we use only supercritical CO2 extraction to minimize the chance of any leftover hydrocarbon solvent residue in our products.

What is Hemp Extract?

Hemp “extract” can mean a couple of different things, depending on where you see it. On one hand, CBD is technically an “extract” because it is literally extracted from the hemp plant’s flower and leaves with the help of solvents in high-pressure vessels.

On the other hand, “hemp oil” can be “extracted” from the seeds of the hemp plant by crushing them with expellers. While this makes for very healthy vegetable oil for cooking, hemp seeds contain zero CBD! The problem arises when unethical sellers make their product look like you are buying CBD, but it contains literally pennies worth of cooking oil.

There is nothing illegal about selling hemp seed oil and calling it hemp extract. But the reason for doing so is they are counting on you not knowing the difference. You will find pages of these types of products on Amazon and eBay because their policies expressly prohibit the sale of CBD on their websites.

Just remember, when you see “hemp extract” you should also see “CBD” stated somewhere on the product, otherwise, save your money, it is likely fake. Think about it this way: If there is really CBD inside the product, why in the world wouldn’t you say so?

What is MCT Oil?

MCT oil stands for medium-chain triglycerides. These triglycerides are natural, saturated fatty acids typically found in fractioned coconut oil. MCT oil is used for the delivery of the CBD oil for faster absorption into the bloodstream when ingested. In other words, the MCT oil helps the CBD to become more bioavailable to the body rather than being passed through and discarded in the digestive process.

What is the difference between Oil Tincture or Capsules?

CBD capsules have an exact concentrated serving size of CBD, such as 25mg. With the tincture, you can vary and adjust the amount of CBD in the dropper, though there is a recommended dosage. For many people, it is simply a personal preference or convenience.

What are the benefits of CBD oil?

The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is very strict about making any endorsements, specific claims or medical benefits from CBD products. We strongly encourage our customers to speak with their physician about any of their CBD questions, as well as doing your own research online. There are plenty of academic studies and articles about all the various aspects of CBD.

What are the benefits of CBD capsules?

Our CBD capsule products are typically used for the calmness of the body and mind. However, our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you are curious to see what other customers are saying about our CBD capsule products, please refer to our customer testimonials section below. CBD capsules are exact measurements of concentrated CBD milligrams in each capsule, whereas CBD oil needs measuring before consumption.

What are the benefits of CBD tinctures?
Tinctures are the most popular CBD product because less is lost in the digestive tract. A tincture is simply a liquid mixture of CBD and a carrier oil, such as MCT (coconut oil).
Will CBD oil get me high?

Cannabis has two species, hemp and marijuana. Visually, they look similar and both have 113 assorted cannabinoid compounds. Two of those 113 compounds are CBD and THC.

In hemp, THC cannot exceed a mere 0.3% (so it will have no psychoactive effect). And it is impossible to get high from CBD. Hemp is legal at the federal level. Peace River’s broad-spectrum CBD contains 0.0% THC.

Marijuana sold in stores in some states generally contains 16-32% THC! So, you can see there is a world of difference between the two! Whether your CBD has 0.0% THC or even 0.3% THC, a dosage will not get you high.

What's the difference between Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum, and Isolate CBD?

This is one of the first things you should examine on a label.

Full Spectrum CBD contains ALL the extracts (cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes) from the plant. It also includes that less than 0.3% trace amount of THC. Research is showing that all of the 113 compounds from the plant work in concert with each other for CBD’s best therapeutic effect, this is called the “entourage effect”. The entourage effect refers to how all the different cannabinoids in the extraction work in concert with each other for the best beneficial effect.

Broad Spectrum CBD is the same as Full Spectrum with the exception that the THC has been removed down to 0.0%. For most people, little to no difference in efficacy is noted with respect to the entourage effect.

CBD isolate is when the ONLY single cannabinoid in the product is CBD – period. There is no entourage effect. Isolate is generally produced using lower-quality hemp plants. Pure isolate is refined to the point where it is typically in the form of fine white powder. It is preferred by some manufacturers because it is easily divisible into certain products in this powder form. And while some people may see beneficial results, most people are disappointed with CBD isolate products. Peace River does not sell any isolate products.
