Frequently Asked Questions

CBD Questions

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-intoxicating chemical compound found in Cannabis sativa L. plants and was discovered in 1940. CBD is a naturally occurring substance that promotes relaxation, calmness, and wellness, and is available to consumers in many different forms.

What is CBD oil?

CBD oil is the concentrated form of this natural oil which is extracted from the buds, flowers and leaves
of the cannabis plant. It has been used by people all over the world for a variety of purposes. CBD oil is
not the same as hemp seed oil.

What is CBD used for?

Overall, CBD is a natural product that supports the body’s natural systems. Our body utilizes cannabinoids to regulate and balance a broad range of physiological systems. Some people use CBD specifically to get a good night’s rest and wake up fresh, or to maintain well-functioning joints.

What effects will I feel from using CBD products?

Many CBD oil users report improved mood, calm, better sleep, sharper focus, reduced joint pain, and more. Just keep in mind that organic compounds such as CBD can produce varying degrees of effects in different people. Your results may vary.

This is important; CBD works in a very, very subtle fashion. It is not at all like taking some synthetic drug produced by the pharmaceutical companies. The most common comment is about what people suddenly don’t notice anymore. You just notice that you are much calmer, or you just had a great night’s sleep, or your muscle or joint pain is reduced. That’s how CBD feels when it works.

Will CBD get me high?

No. CBD is non-psychotropic and is extremely unlikely to get you high.

Cannabis has two species, hemp and marijuana. Visually, they look similar and both have 113 assorted cannabinoid compounds. Two of those 113 compounds are CBD and THC.

In hemp, THC cannot exceed a mere 0.3% (so it will have no psychoactive effect). And it is impossible to get high from CBD. Hemp is legal at the federal level. Peace River’s broad-spectrum CBD contains 0.0% THC.

Marijuana sold in stores in some states generally contains 16-32% THC! So, you can see there is a world of difference between the two! Whether your CBD has 0.0% THC or even 0.3% THC, a dosage will not get you high.

Where does CBD come from?

CBD is one of over 100 complex molecules (called cannabinoids) found in the flowers and leaves of the hemp plant. It is extracted from the plant using “solvents” and high-pressure vessels in a lab. The two most common “solvents” used are CO2 and ethanol. At Peace River CBD®, we use only supercritical CO2 extraction to minimize the chance of any leftover hydrocarbon solvent residue in our products.

How does CBD work?

When CBD is consumed, it triggers an interaction with our endocannabinoid system to release our own endocannabinoids. Later our body will produce an enzyme called anandamide which will reign our endocannabinoids back in. CBD can inhibit the production of that enzyme, and thus keep the cannabinoids active in the body for longer periods of time.

What is the Endocannabinoid System?

The human endocannabinoid system, or ECS, is a system of neurotransmitters and receptors that reside on the outside of our cells. When our central nervous system releases its own endocannabinoids, they interact with those cannabinoid receptors on cell membranes to address or regulate certain physiological processes at a cellular level.

Is CBD safe?

There are no known incidences of illness caused by consumption of CBD oil. Peace River’s products are produced in laboratory conditions and undergo rigorous testing to guarantee they are free of any potential contaminants. It is also important to note that our CBD tinctures and gelcaps are produced in FDA Certified Labs and also carry the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Certifications. These two certifications are very difficult to achieve and maintain. We challenger the reader to find other brands that carry these certifications.

Why should I purchase CBD from Peace River?

Peace River was founded on a bonehead-simple foundation: Source the highest quality, organically grown CBD available from GMP and FDA-certified labs, then deliver it at cost-plus pricing. You’re not going to find anything better.

At Peace River, we offer you buying club pricing, without any membership fees. And if you’re not satisfied, we offer a 60-day moneyback guarantee.

If you’ve been paying $60-$130 or more for an honest 1000mg equivalent of CBD in a product, you should be asking your supplier why? If they have a reason, we don’t know what it is. CBD should not be a luxury item, but an affordable supplement that can be part of our daily well-being.

CBD Ingredients

What is hemp seed oil?

Hemp seed oil comes from crushed hemp seeds and contains no CBD. While CBD is extracted from the cannabis plant’s flowers, hemp seed oil is produced by pressing (expelling) the plant’s seeds. Hemp seed oil is similar to other seed oils such as corn oil and canola oil. In other words, hemp seed oil is just another cooking oil, but it does contain many healthful omegas. Again, it does not contain cannabinoids such as CBD, so be careful when shopping for products not to confuse the two.

What are cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are natural active compounds produced within all cannabis plants. They are responsible for most of the benefits of cannabis. Because a plant produces these cannabinoids, they are technically called phyto-cannabinoids; phyto meaning “plant derived”.

People and most other animals produce cannabinoids, too. But because their body produces them, they are called “endo”-cannabinoids. Our body’s have an endocannabinoid system (ECS), which regulates many of our functions such as hormones, aches, pain, mood, inflammation, sleep, and more. Our ECS’s ultimate job is to keep our body in a state of homeostasis. Homeostasis just means “balance”. But sometimes our ECS needs help.

What is hemp extract?

Hemp “extract” can mean a couple of different things, depending on where you see it. On one hand, CBD is technically an “extract” because it is literally extracted from the hemp plant’s flower and leaves with the help of solvents in high-pressure vessels.

On the other hand, “hemp oil” can be “extracted” from the seeds of the hemp plant by crushing them with expellers. While this makes for very healthy vegetable oil for cooking, hemp seeds contain zero CBD! The problem arises when unethical sellers make their product look like you are buying CBD, but it contains literally pennies worth of cooking oil.

There is nothing illegal about selling hemp seed oil and calling it hemp extract. But the reason for doing so is they are counting on you not knowing the difference. You will find pages of these types of products on Amazon and eBay because their policies expressly prohibit the sale of CBD on their websites.

Just remember, when you see “hemp extract” you should also see “CBD” stated somewhere on the product, otherwise, save your money, it is likely fake. Think about it this way: If there is really CBD inside the product, why in the world wouldn’t you say so?

What is MCT oil?

MCT oil stands for medium-chain triglycerides. These triglycerides are natural, saturated fatty acids typically found in fractioned coconut oil. MCT oil is used for the delivery of the CBD oil for faster absorption into the bloodstream when ingested. In other words, the MCT oil helps the CBD to become more bioavailable to the body rather than being passed through and discarded in the digestive process.

What are terpenes?

Think of the smell of fresh pine needles, cedar, or eucalyptus. Think of aroma therapy. Those are terpenes you are smelling. Terpenes are a class of volatile hydrocarbon compounds that are also produced in the flowers of the cannabis plant. Terpenes are have been utilized by humans for millennia for the beneficial effect they can have on humans or in nature to ward of pests and diseases.

Terpenes are recognized as safe for human consumption by the Food and Drug Administration and are used in a broad variety of food and cosmetic products found in stores.

Are there traces of THC in CBD oil?

Generally speaking, some raw (unrefined) hemp extracts may contain small traces of THC. Peace River does not sell raw hemp extracts. Our broad-spectrum products have had the THC removed down to 0.0%.

What's the difference between full spectrum, broad spectrum, and isolate CBD?

This is one of the first things you should examine on a label.

Full Spectrum CBD contains ALL the extracts (cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes) from the plant. It also includes that less than 0.3% trace amount of THC. Research is showing that all of the 113 compounds from the plant work in concert with each other for CBD’s best therapeutic effect, this is called the “entourage effect”. The entourage effect refers to how all the different cannabinoids in the extraction work in concert with each other for the best beneficial effect.

Broad Spectrum CBD is the same as Full Spectrum with the exception that the THC has been removed down to 0.0%. For most people, little to no difference in efficacy is noted with respect to the entourage effect.

CBD isolate is when the ONLY single cannabinoid in the product is CBD – period. There is no entourage effect. Isolate is generally produced using lower-quality hemp plants. Pure isolate is refined to the point where it is typically in the form of fine white powder. It is preferred by some manufacturers because it is easily divisible into certain products in this powder form. And while some people may see beneficial results, most people are disappointed with CBD isolate products. Peace River does not sell any isolate products.

Using CBD

How often can I take CBD?

Most people take CBD once a day, but it is not uncommon for it to be taken 2-3 times per day.

What is the best serving size for CBD?

There is no set rule for this. An ideal size will be different depending upon the person and their needs. And it also depends on the particular product you are taking. 5 to 50 milligrams per day are common with an average adult dosage in the 25mg to 35mg range. A dropperful of our 1000mg tincture (up to the 1ml line) will contain about 33mg.

Is it possible to take too much CBD?

Not that we are aware of. CBD is non-toxic. We have never heard of anyone overdosing on CBD. There have been accounts of some drowsiness from very large doses and possibly diarrhea.

Does CBD need to be taken with food?

We have found that it makes little difference. Some customers prefer it, while others not.

How long will it take to see benefits from taking CBD oil?

Minutes to days. Many of our customers report almost immediate results. However, most of the effects of CBD are subtle and take some time to be detectable — usually half an hour or more or up to days. Personal results will vary.

Are there any negative side effects from CBD?

CBD is not known to have any negative side effects. Large servings of CBD can possibly cause some drowsiness or diarrhea. We always recommend checking with your healthcare professional if you have any medical concerns that may be unique to your particular situation.

Is it possible to overdose on CBD?

We know of no reports of anyone ever overdosing on CBD. CBD is completely non-toxic. Also, Peace River lab tests reports show no detectable levels of THC.

Will CBD oil show up on a drug test?

To our knowledge, CBD is not looked for in drug tests, but THC is. Our broad-spectrum products contain undetectable amounts of THC down to 0.0% so under normal circumstances, our products are not expected to produce a positive result for THC consumption utilizing testing conducted using industry-standard testing methods. It is possible some tests could detect a trace amount out to further decimal points, but none that we are aware of.

Peace River does not represent or warrant as to the results that any individual may experience, and advises you to consider the risks of incorrect detection prior to use of this product.

Will CBD help me if I'm healthy?

It depends on your definition of healthy. If you are 100% healthy and without any health issues or concerns, we recommend you reward yourself with something instead of spending money on CBD.

Does CBD interact with other medications?

Much more research needs to be done in this area. If you are taking prescription medications, we always recommend that you speak with your qualified medical professional.

Is CBD water soluble?

Peace River’s CBD tincture is not water soluble. However, inside our gelcaps our CBD is formulated into nano-sized emulsion particles that are water soluble. This allows the CBD oil to be more easily absorbed.

Is CBD safe for pets?

Yes, high-quality CBD is safe for pets. However, we strongly recommend that you consult with a veterinarian who is familiar with your pet and knowledgeable in the use of CBD. The exact dosage will depend on your pet’s weight.

CBD, Hemp, and Marijuana

What is the difference between CBD and hemp?

CBD is an extract from the hemp plant. There are many varieties of hemp. Some genetics produce high percentages of CBD, while other varieties produce negligible amounts. How hemp is cultivated makes enormous differences.

Planted in high density, hemp grows in tall slender shoots like bamboo. This method’s objective is to ultimately harvest the stalks for a broad array of clothing and industrial products – and also to produce seeds for food such as hemp hearts and hemp seed oil.

When hemp is grown for CBD, different genetics are selected for their high CBD content. We call these phytocannabinoid-rich (PCR). These are grown with wide spacing between the plants and at maturity, they resemble small Christmas trees. Male plants must be eliminated from the field so the females do not become pollinated as this will reduce their CBD content dramatically.

What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?

Hemp and marijuana are both types of cannabis. Think of them as cousins. However, marijuana’s genetics produce high levels of one of the cannabinoids known as THC. As you probably know, THC the psychotropic cannabinoid that causes the high and is a known drug.

Hemp’s genetics contains negligible amounts of THC and is unlikely to cause a high. In fact the crop is rigorously tested during the growing season and if THC exceeds certain levels, it must be destroyed. At harvest, our hemp contains less than 0.3% THC. (Compare this to marijuana that can contain over 25% THC!) Then, after harvest, our products undergo further testing and even the low, negligible amounts of THC remaining are remediated (removed) through a slow and extremely sophisticated process to get levels to non-detectable levels. That’s how refined Peace River’s products are!

What is the difference when comparing CBD and medical cannabis (medical marijuana)?

Medical cannabis is just another term for medical marijuana. Marijuana contains high levels of THC, which is a cannabinoid that causes a high. You can get many of the medical benefits as you would from CBD, but you’re also going to get very high from those elevated levels of THC, too. Medical cannabis can cause severe impairments. CBD is not psychotropic; it does not cause a high. It can be used while working, studying, driving, or undertaking any other physical activities such as exercise and sports.

Tinctures, Oil, and Capsules

What are the benefits of CBD oil?

The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is very strict about making any endorsements, specific claims or medical benefits from CBD products. We strongly encourage our customers to speak with their physician about any of their CBD questions, as well as doing your own research online. There are plenty of academic studies and articles about all the various aspects of CBD.

What are the benefits of CBD capsules?

Our CBD capsule products are typically used for the calmness of the body and mind. However, our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you are curious to see what other customers are saying about our CBD capsule products, please refer to our customer testimonials section below. CBD capsules are exact measurements of concentrated CBD milligrams in each capsule, whereas CBD oil needs measuring before consumption.

What are the benefits of CBD tinctures?

Tinctures are the most popular CBD product because less is lost in the digestive tract. A tincture is simply a liquid mixture of CBD and a carrier oil, such as MCT (coconut oil).

What is a CBD tincture?

CBD tincture is a liquid preparation made from CBD extract plus a carrier oil. A dropper is used to dispense a desired dosage. Typically, our customers prefer to hold it for a few minutes under the tongue as a way to speed up absorption, the swallow it. Our tinctures do not contain alcohol.

What is the difference between oil tinctures and capsules?

CBD capsules have an exact concentrated serving size of CBD, such as 25mg. With the tincture, you can vary and adjust the amount of CBD in the dropper, though there is a recommended dosage. For many people, it is simply a personal preference or convenience.

How do I choose a product that is right for me?

Only you can decide that. We suggest experimenting with our tinctures and gelcaps. Our gelcaps are quick and easy and are an exact 25mg dosage. The tincture is best held under the tongue for a few minutes before swallowing, plus you can vary the amount you put in your dropper.

Isolate, Broad Spectrum, and Full Spectrum

What does broad spectrum mean?

The term broad spectrum refers to CBD oil products that contain a combination of cannabinoids, terpenes and other beneficial compounds found in hemp – but with the single THC cannabinoid removed! Peace River’s broad-spectrum oils maintain concentrations of the beneficial compounds that are found in the original hemp plant in order to enhance the entourage effect in the body. Per our lab reports, our broad-spectrum CBD oil products contain no detectable THC.

What does full spectrum mean?

Full spectrum CBD oil is similar to broad-spectrum CBD – but it retains the trace amounts of THC present in the hemp plant. In the CBD world, this legally means that THC must always be less than 0.3%.

Is broad spectrum or full spectrum better?

Our customers as well as the general consensus report very little difference between the two. Both take advantage of the entourage effect.

What are the benefits of taking broad spectrum CBD products?

The benefits of broad-spectrum products are usually greater than the benefits provided by others, such as those containing just CBD isolate, but little-to-no difference is noted when compared to full-spectrum products. This is likely due to the entourage effect. The entourage effect occurs when all the many compounds in the hemp plant – cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids – all work together to produce even greater effects than just CBD alone. However, organic compounds such as CBD can produce different effects in different people. Your results may vary.

Is broad spectrum CBD oil psychoactive?

Peace River CBD tinctures and gelcaps are made with broad spectrum oils which have had traces of THC removed. Without THC, our products are highly unlikely to cause a high.

What is CBD isolate?

Isolate products contain only the cannabinoid CBD and nothing else. There is no entourage effect. Moreover, isolate is cheap to make and is often extracted from low quality or sometimes contaminated hemp plants.

Isolate is favored for many edible CBD products because it can be easily divisible/measurable. Peace River sells no isolate products. Isolate CBD products can have some beneficial health effects, but are generally much, much less effective than full-spectrum or broad spectrum.

What is the Entourage Effect?

Think of a symphony. A symphony is an entourage of many different instruments that interact with each other to produce an enhanced musical piece. Each piece adds to the total effect. This is how the 113 phyto-cannabinoids and the terpenes in hemp all work together in our body to achieve a beneficial health effect. Scientists are intensively studying this to understand exactly how these all work and interact with each other in our body.

Questions about Peace River

How does your product differ from others?

CBD products generally fall into four categories: 1) There are counterfeit CBD products that carry little or no CBD, 2) There are low quality CBD products that may only be an isolate, or they carry contaminants metals, or pesticides, 3) There are clean, high quality CBD products whose expensive pricing reflects a time from years past when CBD was a rare commodity, 4) and finally, there are Peace River’s CBD products that have the clean, high quality of the best on the markets, but are fairly priced reflecting today’s markets without the excessive markups.

This is what Peace River was founded on high quality and cost-plus pricing. CBD can’t help you if you can’t afford to use it! Our products are developed high potency and easy absorption. All of our broad-spectrum products are THC-free (0.0% THC). Our gelcaps contain a nanoemulsion formula designed maximum bioavailability – easy and quick absorption.

Our products are produced using clean CO2 extraction methods in labs with FDA and GMP certifications which are very difficult to acquire and maintain. In other words, the only difference between Peace River’s CBD products and the absolute best you can find on the market – is price.

Why are Peace River's products so inexpensive compared to others?

The real question is why are others so expensive? Many companies are still selling CBD products based on pricing from when CBD was a relatively scarce commodity. In 2019, farmers grew almost 4x the amount of hemp than what was needed for extraction.

Peace River was founded on breaking ranks with these other companies by offering the best CBD made on the market, then pricing our CBD products at a fair, cost-plus basis.

Do you offer a return policy?

Of course! Peace River offers a 60-day, money-back, no questions asked, satisfaction guarantee.

Do your tinctures or gelcaps contain THC?

No. Peace River’s tinctures and gelcaps test out at 0.0% THC on the lab reports. We use a slow, sophisticated technology to remove any residual THC found in our hemp extract.

How much CBD is in your products?

Peace River’s tinctures contain 1000 mg per bottle, and the gelcaps contain a total of 750mg. When buying CBD, be sure to divide the number of milligrams listed on the product into the price so you know the true cost per milligram that you are buying.

What methods of extraction do you use?

Peace River’s broad-spectrum CBD oil produced utilizing a sophisticated CO2 extraction method in order to retain the beneficial compounds produced by the cannabis plant such as the cannabinoids and terpenes. This method is slower and more costly than ethanol extraction processes that can leave residual hydrocarbons behind.

Will you be adding more CBD products in the future?

Yes! We are currently evaluating other CBD products like topical products (roll-on and balm), immune-support formulations, lotions, gel caps with curcumin or melatonin, cosmetics, dog treats and even horse products. Let us know what else you’d like to see us carry at info@peaceriverwellness.com

Where is your hemp grown?

Peace River’s hemp is grown 100% in the USA. More specifically it may come from farms or greenhouses in Colorado, Oregon, Kentucky or South Carolina.

Is your product organic?

The hemp used for making Peace River’s products are grown to strict organic growing standards and methods.

Are there any GMO ingredients in your products?

No.

Do you test your products for potency, pesticide, heavy metals, and yeast/mold?

Yes. All Peace River products go through a rigorous series lab tests to ensure purity and accurate concentrations of cannabinoids. This includes testing to be sure that our products are free of THC and any potential contaminants.

Do you publish your lab reports?

Of course! Our lab reports for each batch are posted on our website. Each bottle contains a QR code that will take you to our lab reports. Match the lot number on your bottle with the lab report you want to see.

Buying and Storing CBD

Will I need a marijuana card or doctor's prescription to use CBD products?

No. CBD is not a drug. It is legal in 46 of 50 states. You will not need a medical marijuana card in order to purchase CBD online.

What is the best way to shop for CBD?

We’ve made a handy CBD buyers’ checklist for consumers that evaluating products easy.

Can I buy Peace River CBD on Amazon or eBay?

When you do a search on Amazon or eBay, you will be led to dozens of pages of products, BUT, none of them will list CBD as an ingredient. If you read the back of the product where the ingredients are listed, you’ll see that these products mostly contain hemp seed oil – which is extracted by crushing hemp seed in an expeller like other vegetable oils. However, hemp seed oil contains no CBD!

Who has the lowest price for CBD?

You can’t always go by price. You need to divide the number of milligrams (mg) of CBD on the product label into the price.

For example: When 1000 mg of Acme CBD tincture that sells for $89.95, you are really spending almost 9 cents per milligram. Peace River’s 1000 mg tincture is $29.95 or less than 3 cents per mg of CBD.

Lastly, consider a 600 mg CBD product for $24.95. Total cost is less than Peace River’s but the cost per milligram is actually over 4 cents.

Does CBD have a shelf life?

CBD itself does not have an expiration date. As with any organic compound, though, CBD oil products can degrade and should be used within a certain period of time. They should be stored in airtight containers either in the refrigerator or in a cool place away from direct sunlight.

How should I store CBD products? Do I need to refrigerate them?

We do recommend either refrigerating CBD products or at least storing them in a cool place. Keep your CBD products in airtight containers and store them away from direct sunlight and heat, which can degrade certain compounds in CBD oil.
